Fallen Earth, the post apocalyptic MMO created by an independent game developer was recently sold to
GamersFirst, the free-to-play gaming company that most recently resurrected APB in a free to play model. The specifics were broken over at Massively, and you can find the whole article
here.
I actually resubbed FE a couple of weeks ago, completely unaware of all of the craziness surrounding their sale to Gamersfirst. I actually enjoy FE, it's a complicated, difficult, and huge mmo that gives you a sense of accomplishment when you just level up on your own. It's graphics are pretty awful, although the world is large and detailed enough that I can get over the bad graphics, but I understand it's an issue for some.
In general, I believe that offering a free to play model will get a lot more people into the game, rather than having to buy the game AND a subscription fee.
